Arts And CraftsArts and Crafts refers to the activities of making items using one's own hand and skills. Arts and crafts are a hobby for many. Arts and Crafts can be further subdivided into handicrafts and the rest. While some crafts have been in practice for centuries, others are modern day inventions. The Arts and Crafts movement was a British aesthetic movement that took place in the late 19th and early 20th century. This reformist movement influenced American and British decorative arts, architecture, cabinet making and other kinds of crafts. Experts of the Arts and Crafts movement included William Morris, Walter Crane, Nelson Dawson, Phoebe Anna Traquair, Herbert Tudor Buckland and Frank Lloyd Wright, among others. The Arts and Crafts movement was primarily started to preserve the authentic styles of art pieces made during the 19th century. Especially the Victorian style architecture that existed in middle-class homes of England, were preserved through this movement. Also, richly detailed gothic styles of arts were focused on. The walls of homes during the 19th century had wallpapers with medieval themes on them. Pieces of art made from ceramic, brass, silver, copper and glass were popular during that era.
