DecoArt Deco, as the name suggests, was among the most popular decorative art movements of the modern world. Prevalent during the 1920s and the 1930s, art deco became visible in designs from different areas like architecture, interior design, fashion, painting, graphic arts, industrial designs and even films. Deriving inspiration from a large variety of art work from different cultures, art deco were a blend of all these influences like Art Nouveau, Bauhaus, Cubism and many more. Art deco signifies elegant styling, highly imaginative patterns and functional designs. This movement (initially known as Style Moderne) was conceptualised by various French artists like Hector Guimard, Eugène Grasset, Raoul Lachenal, Paul Follot, Maurice Dufrene, and Emile Decour. Although the term Art Deco was derived from the International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Art of 1925, it was coined in the 1960s by the famous art historian, Bevis Hillier. Art Deco artefacts are fashionable among art lovers for their exceptional workmanship and longevity. Various art deco products like showpieces, cutlery products, silverware, furniture, clocks and jewellery and glass work command high prices in the market of antiques and artefacts. In recent times, art deco has also made its appearance in various entertainment media. Batman: The Animated Series, films like King Kong, Dick Tracy and games like Sim City 4 and Fallout feature a heavy art deco architectural background.
