Jewellery BoxThere is probably no item in a particular household that is more closely treasured than personal or family jewellery. Having both monetary and sentimental values, these items are meant to be preserved for generations. A container tailor-made to store jewellery items is the jewellery box. Coming in varied shapes and sizes, this box is usually ornately decorated, which is appropriate considering the precious contents within. The jewellery box is most often square or rectangular in shape with caved legs and a hinged lid. A lockable clasp ensures that the inside contents are secure. In order to prevent any scratches to the jewellery items and also render a touch of class to the interiors, the inside of the jewellery box is lined with velvet coated foam. The underside of the lid may have a mirror enabling the woman to see herself as she puts on her ornaments. The box is generally made of wood, with sometimes animal bones being incorporated into the body, further enhancing the ethnicity. Brass embellishments offer the box a treasure chest-like appearance. Some boxes may be made of metals such as silver too. Considering the care taken during the manufacture of jewellery boxes and the attention to detail, the boxes themselves are works of art and may be even more cherished than the contents. While being a prized possession for most style-conscious women, some of these containers, especially musical jewellery boxes, could make ideal gift items too. These boxes have a battery operated system that plays a tune whenever the box’s lid is opened. |
