LibertyLiberty art works belong to Liberty and Co. and are extremely popular as antiques throughout Europe. Liberty & Co. was started by Sir Arthur Lasenby Liberty in 1875. Sir Arthur Lasenby Liberty began his career as an apprentice working for one of his uncles who sold lace. Later on, he joined Farmer and Rogers which specialized in women’s fashion wear. Thereafter, he started Liberty & Co. The company started as a shop in Regent Street, London and sold ornaments, fabrics and various other art objects. Liberty & Co. initially offered designs and art works based on some of the very popular styles available in those times. However with time it went on to develop its own unique style which was closely related to the aesthetic movement of the 1890s, known as Liberty Art Nouveau, meaning the “New Art”. Art Nouveau became hugely popular and was also known as Stile Liberty after the original London Liberty shop. Liberty used distinctive styling on different fabrics like satin and silk. The Liberty dress fabrics featuring such designs and artistic colour combinations were hugely popular in the early 1900s. Today, most of the Liberty art works done in the early 20th century are in great demand as antiques. Such Liberty antiques are available at many stores dealing in art work and antique ware. Liberty art works are also available on the internet on many of the leading shopping websites. |
