PewPew, the silent witness to God’s sermons, seats parishioners in churches and other places of prayers. A pew is a bench of longer length, used mostly in churches, that allows a larger number of people to sit. Permanent pews were not common in churches in the past; however, with sermons gaining importance as a major act of worship, the pew has become an essential church furnishing object. Pews are mostly made from wood and are arranged such that seated people face the church altar. They are always placed in rows to accommodate more people. In this row-wise arrangement, care is taken to allow some space (pathway) in between for people to move through. Pews have witnessed changes to their design with the passage of time. Nowadays, some pews feature cushioned seating and even footrests. Various pews also provide slots behind each pew to hold bibles and other religious literature. Many churches have pews which are permanently attached to the floor. In fact, many pews have kneelers to allow parishioners to kneel during public prayers. These are movable and can be moved out of way when not needed. Various decorations for church pews are also available in the market. Church pews made from high quality oak and pine wood are always preferred. Other than pews made in the latest style, pews fashioned in Victorian style and various antique church pews featuring intricate patterns and styling are also much adored for their exceptional workmanship and comfort. |
