Rosewood

Rosewood is a dense hard wood that is commonly found in countries like India, South America and the West Indies. The name rosewood became popular due to the rose-like scent that the wood releases when cut. Rosewood is generally confused with mahogany, another dense but dark red coloured wood. However, rosewood can be distinguished by its fine white or black ring patterns, and it is also heavier than mahogany.

Rosewood is the preferred choice for making fine furniture throughout the world, including China and Europe. Its unique properties make it the most preferred wood for making fine furniture. It is strong, takes an excellent polish, and is suitable for making musical instruments, wooden chess sets (black pieces), flooring and other rosewood furniture like rosewood dining table, rosewood chair, antique rosewood sofa table, and rosewood artefacts. It is also cherished for its fine, glossy look. Rosewood is even used in making rosewood oil, a component of many body and skin care products.

Rosewood comes in different varieties like Dalbergia nigra, Brazilian rosewood, and Dalbergia latifolia, also known as Indian rosewood. Furniture, artefacts, and other articles made of rosewood are much sought after in the antique market. Owing to its inherent qualities, rosewood antiques have proved to be rewarding investments.
