SconceA sconce is a unique type of light fixture which not only serves the purpose of illumination but also adds value to the decor. Sconce as a term stands for covering, protection or something that is covered. A sconce is usually fixed to the wall with the light being projected upwards against the wall. Sconce was the prevalent method of lighting up rooms, corridors and streets, in times when the magic of electricity had not graced this world. This style of torch lighting has been wonderfully implemented with the modern day gas and electric sconces as well. Using sconces for lighting up rooms and corridors is soothing on the eyes as the light source is not directly visible; rather one feels the light diffused across the surrounding. Placing sconces are also of utmost importance for allowing the properly distributed illumination. Normally, a sconce is placed at 3/4th of the room height. Additionally, the decorative value it provides has prompted various makers of decorative light fixtures to come up with various styles and designs of sconces. Candle wall sconce, mirror sconce and brass wall sconce are some of the popular varieties. |
