Agatha ChristieFamous English crime fiction writer Agatha Christie was born on 15 September, 1890 in Torquay, Devon. At the age of 16 when she was in Paris Agatha joined school to study piano and singing. Also known as Dame Agatha Christie, she has written romances under the name Mary Westmacott. She gained recognition with her 66 detective novels. After her novels that featured detectives Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple were published, she was honoured with the title of ‘Queen of Crime’. She is known as the best-selling writer of all time by the Guinness Book of World Records. Approximately one billion copies of her novels, in English, have been sold Agatha Christie is considered one of the best selling authors in many countries including France. ‘The Mousetrap’, which was Agatha Christie’s stage play opened on November 25, 1952 at the Ambassadors Theatre and has been the longest running play in London and is still running today with over 20,000 performances. The various books written by Agatha Christie include ‘The Mysterious Affair at Styles’, ‘The Secret Adversary’, ‘Murder on the Links’, ‘The Mystery of the Blue Train’ and ‘A Caribbean Mystery’, to name a few.
