BunterBilly Bunter known as the 'Fat Owl Of The Remove’ is a popular fictional character created by Charles Hamilton, assuming the pseudo name ‘Frank Richards’. The fictional character first introduced in 1908 in print and became immensely popular through the children’s paper, ‘The Magnet’. The story of Bunter was set in Greyfriars School a fictional English school. The theme of Billy Bunter revolved around his cowardly, greedy adventures that were enjoyed by people from all age groups. The Magnet was discontinued in 1940, owing to the shortage of paper and the scaling price of paper during the war. In the same year, on 15 June, bunter was published in Knockout, which was only started in 1939; however, it soon had a wide coverage exceeding that of ‘The Magnet’. Later, the character was adapted for in a BBC television series played by Gerald Campion as the chubby, cake-loving, bespectacled boy wearing check-trousers. The entire episode for television was written by Richards until his death in 1961. The show soon became a hit and was watched by both children and adults. With the growing popularity, the series was broadcast twice, one at 5.40 pm for children and a repeat telecast at 8 pm for the parents. The Billy Bunter book, Billy Bunter video and Billy Bunter pictures and comics are available at many online sites. |
