Captain UnderpantsCaptain Underpants refer to the series of American cartoon children’s books written by Dav Pilkey, who was born on March 4, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. The origin of Captain Underpants dates back to the time when Dav was in second grade at St. John's Lutheran School in Elyria, Ohio. One of those days, his teacher had used the word ‘underpants’ and the entire class had broken into laughter. That’s when he realised that the word ‘underpants’ was really funny. The following day while he was seated at the desk in the hallway for misbehaving in class, which often was the case, Dav conceived the legendary superhero named Captain Underpants. The Captain Underpants series revolves around two highly creative midwestern elementary school students named George Beard and Harold Hutchins. The two characters are showcased as two imaginitive students who love drawing and creating comic books together at their tree house. They are two naughty little boys who hypnotise their principal Mr. Benny Krupp into believing that he is Captain Underpants, a notable superhero created by them in one of their comic books. The entire series features various adventures the duo has alongside Captain Underpants, as they try to save the world from fiendish villains. George Beard’s character is defined by his tie and flat top, whereas Harold Hutchins is identified by his t-shirt and awesomely bad haircut. Other characters featuring in the series are Melvin Sneedly who is George and Harold’s classmate. Ms. Tarra Ribble, Miss Anthrope, and Mr. Meaner are mean staff members of the Jerome Horwitz Elementary School where imagination is a crime. Sulu is George and Harold's pet hampster, and Crackers is their pet Quetzalcoatlus. Boxer Boy is Harold's grandfather and Great Granny Girdle is George's great-grandmother. Boxer Boy and Great Granny Girdle both battle against the evil Captain Blunderpants to rescue their grandsons. The Captain Underpants series has been around for sometime now. It is also one of the more popular American cartoon children’s books ever published. |
