EragonEragon is the first book of the Inheritance Trilogy and is written by an American writer Christopher Paolini. The book was published by Alfred A. Knopf and released in August 2003. The book is a story of a 15 year old farm boy named Eragon and his dragon named Saphira. The lists of characters in the book are Ajihad, Angela, Arya Dröttningu, Brom, Durza and Murtagh. Eragon lives with his uncle and cousin Roran on a farm in the outskirts of a village named Carvahall. Eragon finds a polished blue stone while hunting in ‘The Spine’. He fails to trade the stone and one day witnesses a baby dragon hatch from the stone, which was actually a dragon egg. He decides to raise the dragon and named it Saphira. When two of King Galbatorix’s servants, the Ra’zac, come looking for the blue stone, Eragon escapes with Saphira in the forest. Meanwhile Eragon’s uncle Garrow gets wounded and his house as well as farm gets destroyed by the king’s men. His uncle dies and Eragon goes after Ra’zac seeking vengeance. Eragon becomes a dragon rider and learns magic, sword fighting and the various ways of the Dragon Riders from Brom, a former dragon rider. Thus starts an intriguing journey of Eragon and Saphira. The book has been adapted into a movie that released in December 2006. The movie stars Jeremy Irons, Edward Speelers and John Malkovich, and was produced by 20th Century Fox. DVD’s of the movie were released in March 2007. The book is available online. |
