Famous Five’The Famous Five’ books constitute an adventure series written by famous writer of children’s fiction – Enid Blyton. The Famous Five stories in the books revolve around the exciting happenings in the lives of five fictional characters – George, Anne, Julian, Dick and their pet dog Timmy. The Famous Five series indigenously captures the nuances of life in rustic Britain. The varied exhilarating events are told in a simple but fast-paced narrative that has cast a spell over generations of children. The thrilling action invariably takes place when Anne, Julian and Dick visit their Aunt and Uncle at the seaside township, Kirrin, for their vacations. George, their cousin, is actually a girl, Georgina, who has been given the name George due to her tomboyish nature. The kids spend their time camping, hiking and exploring the hidden basements and passages in the houses surrounding Kirrin, some of which were constructed centuries ago. It is obviously natural in theses exotic locales, that the children would stumble on some mystery or the other. The first book was released in 1942 and since then 21 books were subsequently written. The popularity of the Famous Five books can be garnered from the sales figures transcending millions. The Famous Five stories in the books have been made into television series, radio drams and movies. Some computer games too have been influenced by these series. The books have nowadays become collectors items and the series and movies are available on CD and DVD. |
