James HerbertJames Herbert is a renowned English novelist of best selling horror novels. He was born on the 8th of April 1943 in London and started his career as a singer and then as an advertising agency art director. His first two books were ‘The Rats’ and ‘The Fog’. The first novel ‘The Rats’ has three sequels. His third novel was ‘The Survivor’, where Herbert used supernatural horror instead of the usual science fiction of the first two books. His novel ‘The Dark’ depicted a supernatural darkness aggravating people’s character flaws into evil. ‘Shrine’ has an interesting reference of the Roman Catholic heritage, showing the Christian church in a critical light. The novel ‘Haunted’ was first adapted for screenplay for BBC, but was never used. Herbert’s novels ‘Moon’, ‘Sepulchre’ and ‘Portent’ are basically thrillers and have elements of a detective story and espionage. The heroes of Herbert’s novels were mainly cynical and young. Other books of Herbert include ‘The Spear’, ‘Domain', 'Creed’, ‘The Ghosts of Sleath’, ‘Nobody True’, ‘James Herbert's Dark Places’, ‘Others’, ‘Once’, ‘The City’ and ‘The Magic Cottage’, among others. The book ‘The Rats’ was made into a movie in 1982 and the book ‘Fluke’ was made into a movie in 1995. James Herbert’s novels are extensively available online. |
