About Oor Wullie

Oor Wullie has been sitting on his bucket in the garden, playing with pals Soapie, Fat Boab and Wee Eck, or being chased by PC Murdoch for over 75 years. Just don't mention his 'girlfriend' Primrose! He appears in The Sunday Post and was created by then editor R D Low and drawn for the first thirty three years by Dudley D Watkins. Over the last few years, many famous Scottish personalities have guest-starred in the weekly strip. You'll find two main strands of Oor Wullie publications here. The first is the Annual, produced in time for Christmas (for kids of all ages up to at least a hundred). Older ones of these, as their rarity increases, become ever more valuable. You are likely to easily locate copies from early 1960s up to the present date. Not all of these books actually show the year on the cover. The second main collection of titles is in collaboration with The Sunday Post's famous cartoon family The Broons. As interest in the older strips has grown in recent years a series of joint publications have been produced. These present compilations of certain periods such as 1936-39 or decades like the 1970s. You'll also find celebration titles such as the 75th anniversary publication. You might also discover modern facsimiles of classic editions and the occasional summer and holiday annual or funbook. Generations have enjoyed the tales of the spiky-haired 'wee scamp' (as his mother has been known to call him). If you are not yet a fan it's time to become one. By the way, you don't need to sit on a bucket to read them!
