Philip PullmanPhilip Pullman is a well-known author based in England. One of his highly lauded works is ‘His Dark Materials’, a trilogy of fantasy novels. This trilogy encompasses Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. These novels, although being targeted at children, have also drawn an adult reading audience. The companion books for this trilogy include Lyra’s Oxford that released in 2003. This book features a short story that revolves around the heroine of ‘His Dark Materials’. The Book of Dust is another companion book which is still being authored by Pullman. Philip Pullman’s first brush with the world of literacy was his discovery of Batman and Superman comic books. The Haunted Storm was the first published work of Pullman that released in 1972. In the same year, the book went on to win the New English Library's Young Writer's Award. Around this time Pullman was involved in teaching children and writing school plays. The school plays authored by him also served as the inspiration for Count Karlstein, his first children’s book. Pullman became a full-time author in 1996 although now he also writes and delivers talks occasionally for The Guardian. His non-series based, standalone works includes Puss in Boots: The Adventures of That Most Enterprising Feline, The Scarecrow and his Servant, The Broken Bridge and The White Mercedes, among others. |
