Cherry PickerEither mounted on a truck or used as stand-alone, a cherry picker is also known as a boom lift, basket crane or hydraladder. This machine has a platform or a bucket incorporated at the end of the hydraulic lifting system. This equipment is mostly used at construction sites to elevate a person or objects. Generally, it is the bucket where the person to be elevated stands in. Besides construction sites, cherry pickers are also used in orchards, thus allowing workers to pick-up fruits from high trees. Other uses of cherry pickers include telephone services, cable and utility services such as window cleaning, fire trucks and others. When a cherry picker is mounted on a truck it is called a bucket truck. For the sake of convenience, some controls are integrated in the bucket, enabling the person standing in the bucket to move the contraption. The same types of controls are usually located at the platform, providing flexibility to the main operator to control the bucket. The arm of the cherry picker can be telescopic to help adjust to the reach of the device. One can hire cherry pickers or buy them second hand, which come at a much lesser price. However, while purchasing a used cherry picker it is essential to consider the condition of the equipment. Most manufacturers have specialised in making parts for this device. |
