Engraving

Engraving is a method of making a mark or design on solid surfaces of metals like zinc, copper, steel or non non-metal surfaces like wood, stone or plastic with a tool. Engraving produces a distinctive and recognizable impressed mark with steady and clean edges. This is done by pushing the engraving tool on the solid surface, creating the desired design and depth. Engraving can be done as per the requirements; width and depth of engraving is determined by the top angle of the tool impressed on the surface.

Engraving is done to create decorative marks or designs like on silver and gold ornaments, or to make a functional product like a relief print block on wood. It is a very specialised area that needs the right method, technique and tools. There are different types of engraving machines, tools and accessories for engraving. Different types of engraving tools made for specific types of requirements include flat gravers, round gravers, angle tint tool, flat bottomed tool, etc. They are typically made of hard steel for cutting the design on copper, steel and other surfaces. One of the recent developments in the engraving industry is the use of laser as it ensures clean and precise results.
