MakitaMakita is a well-known name for power tools, equipments and accessories. This Japanese company completed 90 years of establishment in 2005. Makita was founded as an electric motor sales and repair company. Gradually the firm started growing and was named as Makita Electric Work, Inc. Makita was the first Japanese company to sell and market portable electric planers. Soon, the company transformed into an electric power tool manufacturer, initiating exports of various electric power tools and hand-held tools. Makita’s first rechargeable battery power drill was introduced in 1969. The first air tools, pneumatic nailer and air compressors, rolled out of Makita’s factory in 1981. As the company decided to enter the market of professional users, it introduced the first cordless tools for professionals, beginning with a cordless impact tool. Later, the product line was extended with circular saw, grinder and drill. These three power tools were specially designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and were exhibited at the World Design Exposition. Makita launched its first rechargeable drill-driver, a nickel hydride battery tool in 1997. In 2000, Makita introduced MakStar, an advanced technology especially designed for the cordless system. Three years later, the company launched eleven power tools with inbuilt L.E.D. lights. With the acquisition of nailers’ division from Kanematsu-NNK Corp in 2006, Makita expanded its business to fasteners. Two more technologies integrated in Makita’s power tools are MXT technology for drills and AVT technology to minimise the vibration. All their battery operated tools have Lithium-Ion batteries, which are 40% lighter and 280% more powerful than Ni-Cad batteries. |
