MyfordPopular for its quality and services, Myford Limited is one of the leading companies in the tool industry. The company was founded by the late Cecil Moore, in September 1934, and is currently run by his grandson, Mr. Christopher Moore. The need of small, inexpensive metalworking lathes was the reason behind the establishment of the company. It initially began with the production of the 3” height machine, named ML1, which soon gained popularity, leading to the creation of other Myford lathe models. With the outbreak of WWII, the company started manufacturing Drummond lathes, poppet vale grinding machines and special purpose machines for the production of munitions. The famous ML7 was introduced in 1946, and was equipped for quantity production, die-casting techniques and extensive tooling. With the demand for higher spindle speeds, the Myford super 7 lathe was soon developed. This machine had a spindle/bearing arrangement that offered rigidity and control. This arrangement principle was unique to Myford and is, till date, still applied to myford lathes and cylindrical grinders. The company also produces milling machines and woodturning lathes. The current version of the milling machine created by the company is a self-motorised attachment with geared spindle, the VM-A, for use with the Series 7 and 254 lathes. The Mystro/ or ML8 woodworking lathe is an electronic variable speed control machine with a rigid taper roller spindle, used for metal turning. Other products, apart from lathes and cylindrical grinders, manufactured by Myford are Myford gearboxes, steadies, chucks, milling accessories and more. |
