One popular type of oven is the microwave oven that utilises microwave radiation for cooking and heating food. Additionally, many modern kitchens are fitted with gas free standing ovens.

The industrial ovens are available for both small and large-sized applications. There are different methods that are employed by ovens, ranging from heating from the top to heating from the bottom. Some ovens are fitted with a small fan, which aids in even cooking. Ovens are available in a wide variety of sizes, controls and settings. The most basic ovens might just come with a simple thermostat that allows the user to change temperature settings. Some ovens have timers which enable it to automatically switch off after a specified time.
