Pillar DrillA pillar drill is a stationary style of drilling machine that can be mounted on a stand or bolted to the floor or workbench. Unlike a hand-held drill machine; it is far more powerful and accurate. The pillar drill is also known as drill press, pedestal drill or bench pillar drill. It is used in cutting intricate shapes or to cut away the work piece. It comprises of a base that supports a column, table, pillar, spindle and a drill head that is powered by an induction motor. The height of the drill table can be adjusted by means of a table lift crank that can be locked in position with a table lock. The drill press is an indispensable tool in any workshop or shop and comes in a wide variety of models for varying purposes. The most common models are floor models and the ones that are mounted on a bench. The floor models have greater accuracy and capacity while the once mounted on a bench are compact and generally used in home workshops. The home models being compact in design, save space in a smaller shop and can be moved when needed. Also, they are less expensive than other types. The floor models come with several accessories and attachments giving the owner greater capacity to handle larger projects than the bench-top models.
