Scaffolding

Scaffolding is a temporary modular support constructed at any building site to support people at work and hold materials. Scaffolds are usually made of metal pipes or tubes that are tied or bolted in a framework. Before the invention of metal tubes, bamboos were largely used, and are still used in most Asian countries. The basic scaffolding materials include tubes, couplers, and boards. The scaffolding tubes are usually made of steel or aluminium in a variety of lengths and a standard diameter of 48.3 mm. Base plates and mud sills are required to erect the scaffolding. The platforms where the mud sills are placed should be strong enough to retain the scaffolding in place.

Many scaffolding companies and contractors provide complete hire service for scaffolds for both commercial and domestic customers. Scaffoldings are popular amongst the DYI enthusiasts. However, scaffoldings can be dangerous in the absence of insecure bracing, use of poor materials, and improper attention to safety board regulations.
