TractorA tractor is a vehicle with large wheels which is used for drawing, towing, pushing or pulling objects that are extremely hard to move and cannot be self-propelled. They are also popularly used for farming and industrial purposes. The name tractor has conflicting origins; however, the word is used for different types of vehicles in different countries. In Britain, the word "tractor" is popularly referred to farm tractors while in countries like Canada and the US, it is also referred to road tractors. The first tractors were powered by steam engines during the 1800s and early 1900s. These steam engine tractors were not safe. Technology gave way to the production of better and safer tractor that used an internal combustion engine. Tractors are produced in a wide variety, depending on the use for which it is employed. The most popularly use of tractor is in agriculture. The Compact Utility Tractor (CUT) is a small variant of the tractor, engineered specially for landscaping and estate management type tasks. Backhoe tractors are industrial tractors used in construction, small demolitions and light transportation. They are also employed for digging holes, breaking asphalt as well as paving roads. The other varieties of tractors are road tractors, locomotive tractors and artillery tractors. Ferguson tractor and John Deere tractor are among the well-known tractor brands. |
