WackerA compactor is a machine or mechanism that uses compaction techniques to reduce the size of waste material or soil. Compactors are normally powered by hydraulics, and come in many shapes and sizes. Compactors which make use of hydraulically or electrically driven plates to compact rash are sometimes colloquially referred to as wackers, though the correct term is wacker plate compactors. Wackers are frequently used in landfills, garbage collection and compaction, construction, scrap metal processing, car crushing, etc. Wackers are also used in hospitality, retail and service business, like fast food, restaurants, and hotels, to reduce the volume of non-recyclable waste and to curb nuisance of rodents and smell, where the tolerance for these things is particularly low. Wackers intended for this role, may be electrically or hydraulically powered, and come with many loading configurations. The most extensive of loading configurations are ground-access, walk-on and secured indoor chute. Wackers are almost always sport complete welded steel construction, largely for durability and high-corrosive resistance. The resistance to corrosion is so desired as most users leave their wackers completely outdoors or sometimes under a covered loading dock. Some wackers are specifically designed for household use. These look a lot like push-type lawn movers and are used to compact garbage, soil, bituminous materials, gravel, weeds, etc. |
