3 WheelerVehicles come in wide varieties, built for different purposes. The number of wheels in a vehicle is based on several factors such as stability, economic reasons, etc. Cars generally have four wheels although some car or utility vehicles feature only three wheels. A three wheeler is a people-powered or motorized vehicle with only three wheels. Most three-wheelers use motorcycle-based machines and are known as trikes. Three-wheelers and trikes are also made to be “All Terrain Vehicles” (ATV) for off-road purposes. These trikes often have a single front wheel similar to a motorcycle while the rear axle is similar to a car. Such vehicles are also custom built to suit the requirements of the owner by using a part of a rear-engine, rear-drive of other vehicles in combination with a suitable motorcycle front end. A three-wheeler may have either one wheel at the front and two at the back or one wheel at the back and two at the front. Three-wheeled cars are popularly known as microcars. Typically, a three-wheeled car has one wheel at the front for steering while two at the rear for powering it along. This largely helps in saving the cost of a steering mechanism. Three-wheelers can be of various types intended for different uses, from casual baby push chairs to powered automobiles. The different varieties include 3 wheeler pushchairs, 3 wheeler prams, and automobiles such as the Morgan three wheeler manufactured by the Morgan Motor Company. |
