ArmyThe British Land Rover and the US Jeep are some of the very popular vehicles used by armies throughout the world. The models often used for military use are civilian models with some modifications like the addition of military blackout lights, convoy lights, 24 volts electrics, electronic suppression of the ignition system and mounts for installation of special equipment and arms. These vehicles are generally very lightweight and can be transported easily via air planes. Land Rover vehicles have been used extensively as army vehicles by the British army. The Land Rover is a United Kingdom based car manufacturer and is currently a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. Initially, the Land Rover was a single car design manufactured in 1947 by Maurice Wilks. The American Jeep used during the World War II was the inspiration behind this car. This car had a lightweight body, which was made of proprietary aluminium and magnesium alloy known as Birmabright. Over the years, Land Rover has become a brand featuring various distinct 4-wheeler models. Some military models developed by Land Rover are Land Rover Forward Control and Land Rover Lightweight. The Land Rover Defender and Land Rover Series models have being always used for military purposes. Motorcycles specially designed for rugged use have also been used by the British Army. Armstrong MT 500 was one such motorcycle used by the British Army. The Armstrong MT 500 was designed by Clews Competition Motorcycles (CCM). |
