Astra Mk4The Astra brand of cars are manufactured by Vauxhall, the British subsidiary of General Motors (GM). These cars are technically identical to the vehicles produced by GM's German subsidiary Opel in most European countries. The name Astra was first used with the Vauxhall’s 1979 model. The name referred to the right-hand drive versions of the Opel Kadett, which was designed and built in Germany. The Vauxhall Astra Mk 4 was an evolution of Astra MK3 series and was introduced in 1998. These cars were available as 3 and 5-door hatchback, and 4-door saloon models. Additionally, there were special versions of Astra Mk4 namely the Astra Coupé and the Astra Cabrio, which were designed and built by Bertone. These cars were equipped with natural gas-powered engine. The Astra Cabrio was the most popular offering of the Astra Mk 4 line-up. The Cabrio had an electrically retracting canvas roof that could be raised or lowered in 30 seconds. The flagship model of the Astra Cabrio featured satellite navigation, xenon HID headlamps and leather upholstery. The car chassis was tuned by Lotus and later Opel Zafira, a seven seater compact MPV was introduced. The current range of Opel Zahira includes models like SRi, SRi XP, Club, Club A/c, Life, Life A/c, and VXR. The next generation of cars introduced after the Mk 4 cars were the Astra H/C.
