Astra VanThe Vauxhall Astra was first introduced in 1979 and it was Vauxhall’s first front wheel drive vehicle in the UK. The first generation Mark 1 Astra was launched in 1979 and it featured a new engine that had an all-aluminium head, overhead camshaft and hydraulic valve lifters. The van version of Astra was known as the Bedford Astravan. The second generation Astra was launched in 1984. The engine line-up remained the same, although the entire range boasted better aerodynamics and restyled exteriors. The third generation Astra was unveiled in 1991. In 1995, the entire model line up was revised, and Opel’s Ecotec engine was introduced. In 1998, the fourth generation Astra was unveiled. This car featured a Lotus tuned chassis and boasted a comprehensive engine line-up.
The fifth and current generation Astra was launched in March 2004. This car is based on GM’s Delta platform, and is larger than its previous generation counterparts. In late 2006, Vauxhall unveiled the Astravan. The model range comprises of the 1.4i 16v Twinport Manual petrol, 1.3/1.7/1.9 CDTi 16v Manual and the 1.9 CDTi Automatic diesels. It is available in two trim levels: Club and Sportive. The petrol engine version is not available in the Sportive trim models.
