Audi 80The Audi 80 was an entry level luxury car manufactured from 1966 to 1996. It was offered as sedan, estate, coupe and cabriolet. The first Audi 80, termed the B1, was launched in 1973 as a 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan. It was powered by a 60 hp SOHC l4 engine. Other peripheral features included MacPherson strut front suspensions, dead rear axle with coil spring support, trailing arms and a Panhard rod. The B2 Audi 80 emerged in 1978 and was available as a 4-door saloon and a limited edition 2-door coupe. It was equipped with a four-cylinder turbo charged diesel engine that produced 75hp. While the sales of the sedan in the UK lasted till late 1986, the B2 Audi 80 Coupe was offered right through till 1988 before it underwent changes. Audi developed a Quattro program car called, Audi 80 Sport Quattro which was produced in limited numbers between 1984 and 1987. In 1986, the B3 Audi 80 debuted with an enhanced aerodynamic and galvanised body design. The sedan was the first mid-sized car to have a protective coating of zinc. As a result, this coating provided longevity and durability against corrosion. The B3 coupe was later launched in 1988 with a shorter wheelbase and a modified rear end. This car also featured 115 hp 2.0E and two 2.3E engines. The B4 was introduced in 1992 and was offered as a sedan, estate, coupe and cabriolet. All B4 models came with standard features including airbag steering wheel, enhanced door panels, passenger airbags and optional in-built engine immobiliser. The Audi 80 Cabriolet came with improved bumpers, instrument clusters and projection lens headlights. |
