AutograssAutograss racing is a well-known form of recreational motor racing in the UK. Previously, it used to take place in venues across the UK including England, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland. However, in 2006, Scotland became the single venue to host the event. Autograss is normally run on natural surfaces, mostly farming fields with quarter-mile oval fresh tracks that begin with grass. Meetings are carried out by autograss clubs established across the UK and affiliated by the National Autograss Sports Association. There are autograss clubs based in Solway, York, Yorkshire Dales, Cambridge, Bredon Hill, Scunthorpe, Leewood and other places around the UK. Autograss racing is a family sport where family members share cars amongst themselves and compete. Anybody can participate as the age of the enthusiasts range anywhere between 12 and 80. While the junior racing has competitors aged 12 years, adult racing on the other hand involves those who are 16 years and above. Racers aged between 60 and 70 usually race at a competitive level. Races are also held between women competitors. Autograss racing is an inexpensive sport with a starting expense below 500 pounds and minimum running costs. Racers can compete in any of the 10 classes of cars ranging from production saloons to modified cars including single-seated super fast cars. |
