Beach BuggyThe beach buggy is a special type of vehicle specifically designed for use on beaches. It features small wheels and thin tyres, which help in better movement across sand. Beach buggies can either be made at home or bought from outside. The most popular method whilst making a beach buggy is to modify an existing vehicle, with the older Volkswagen (VW) Type One (Beetle, or Bug) being a popular choice. This is because the Beetle has a rear-mounted engine that transfers a high proportion of the weight to the rear-drive wheels for extra traction and a sturdy front suspension. In addition, it does not feature a radiator. Spare parts and accessories for the Beetle are readily available. Alternately, one can construct the vehicle’s frame from steel tubing formed and welded together. Using this method, one can change most essential parts of the vehicle. Due to their rail frames, these vehicles are also known as sandrails. Like the VW Bug, the engine of the sandrail is situated behind the driver. The size of the sandrail varies as per requirements, ranging from a small engine 1-seater to an 8+ cylinder 4-seater. The engine size of the buggy differs as per the suspension, frame strength and performance requirements. However, buggies are usually equipped with a 4-stroke engine resulting in large torque. One can find a wide variety of beach buggies for sale on the Internet, which one can choose as per specifications and requirements. |
