BMW ConvertibleBMW, abbreviation for Bavarian Motor Works, is a German Automobile company. The company was founded by Karl Friedrich Rapp in Munich, Germany in 1916. This company was originally established as an aircraft engine manufacturer. BMW built its first motorcycle in 1923 and its first motorcar in 1928. BMW’s first car was a version of the Austin Seven built under licence. BMW’s first convertible car was the 1982 325i, which was based on the E30 platform. It had a 170 hp engine and replaced the 323i. In 1991 the 325i was given a facelift and the 318i convertible was introduced. In 1993, the new 325i convertible, based on the E36 platform, was launched. In 1994, the E36 based 320i convertible was launched. In 2000, the 323Ci convertible, based on the E46 platform, was made available. In 2003, convertible versions of the 6 series based on the E63 and E64 platforms were launched. In addition to the above mentioned models, BMW’s Motorsports division has launched convertible variants of the performance or M versions of the 3 series and 6 series. Convertible versions of the M3 and the M6 models are very popular. The BMW Z3 roadster was introduced in 1995. The Z3 M Roadster is the performance model of the Z3 and was produced between 1998 and 2002. In 1999, the Z3 was given a face-lift and newer engines were introduced. In late 2002, Z3 was replaced by the Z4. The Z4 M Roadster was introduced in late 2006. |
