BMW M5The BMW M3 is the high performance variant of BMW’s 3-Series compact executive car, manufactured by BMW’s motorsports subsidiary, BMW M GmbH. The first M3 was introduced in 1986, and was based on the E30 3-Series platform. It featured a 2.3 L S14 engine which was capable of producing 195 HP. Later the Evolution and Sport Evolution models were unveiled, which produced 215 HP and 238 HP respectively. BMW M3 convertible (cabriolet) models were also manufactured which utilized a 2.3 L engine which was capable of generating an output power of 215 HP. Production of the E30 M3 coupe ended in 1991. The second generation BMW E36 M3 was unveiled in 1992. It featured a 3.0 L 286 HP engine which was later replaced by a 3.2 L 321 HP engine in 1996. The race ready M3 CSL (E36) was launched in 1995. Additionally, two limited edition performance variants, the M3 GT and the M3 Evo Individual were also launched, 50 units of each were sold in the UK. In 2001, the third generation BMW M3 E46 was launched. It used a 3.2 L S54B32 engine which was capable of generating 343 HP. Two limited special editions of the E46 M3 were manufactured, the M3 CSL and the M3 GTR V8. The M3 GTR V8 won the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in 2001, but was pulled out by BMW in the 2002 season. A new BMW M3, based on the E92 platform was debuted in 2007. It features a 4.0 L V8 engine that develops 420 HP. |
