BMW X5England-based Cowley, fondly known as MINI, is a subsidiary of world-renowned BMW. The name also belongs to a car manufactured by the same company since April 2001. The car ‘MINI’ was designed by Frank Stephenson as a tribute to the original Mini manufactured by the British Motor Corporation. The Mini is sold widely under the tag line of being a "retro" redesign. It is commonly also called 'The BMW MINI' or 'The New MINI'. The car was originally designed and manufactured by the Rover Group for sale as a Rover brand. The MINI is manufactured at the historic Morris car plant in Cowley, Oxford, United Kingdom. Between 2001 and 2006, the car underwent the launch of four hatchback models, namely the basic 'MINI One', the diesel-engined 'MINI One/D', the sportier 'MINI Cooper' and the supercharged 'MINI Cooper S'. An optional convertible roof was introduced in 2005 to the existing line up. The MINI received a complete upgrade in November 2006, unofficially called the Mk II MINI. The most distinguishable feature of the new MINI is that it is available only as a hard-top model, in 2007. Between 2001-2006, the MINI was available in an electric blue/white body colour with a 1.4L Tritec I4 Engine fitted under its hood. This first generation was also offered with engine variants such as the 1.4L Toyota 1ND-TV diesel I4, the 1.6L Tritec I4 or a 1.6L Tritec supercharged I4. Most of the models featured either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic and manual transmission. As freebie accessories, the convertible model additionally features two power windows for rear-seat passengers which retract automatically as the roof opens. |
