Body KitA set of external alterations made to a car is referred to as a body kit. It mainly includes front and rear bumpers (fenders), side skirts, and spoilers. The various elements contained in a body kit work collectively to form the design of a car. These components could be mixed and matched, where the front of one car is equivalent to the rear of another. Body kits used for automotive parts could be made of either fibreglass or polyurethane. Even carbon fibre is used in body kit materials as it is lightweight and easy to use. However carbon fibre is generally not favoured by automobile fanatics since it is expensive for a nominal weight difference. Polyurethane is generally preferred it offers additional damage resistance and does not break in cold weather. Factory fitted body kits have become more popular since the late nineties and onwards mainly due to the expansion of the aftermarket tuning industry. Various in-house solutions are offered by a number of manufacturers concerning their motorsport division. Body kits of various kinds are available for sale on many online shopping and trading portals. |
