Vauxhall Motors launched the Chevette in 1975. Initially, the Chevette was launched as a hatchback that gained instant popularity in the European market. However, the 2/4 door Chevette sedan and the 3-door station wagon were released a year later. The Chevette came equipped with a 1256 cc overhead valve engine along with double wishbone front suspension. It was a rear wheel drive, featuring rear suspension with Panhard rod. The Vauxhall Chevette, though similar in design to the Opel Kadett, featured a differently treated and more aerodynamically designed front grille. The Vauxhall Chevette underwent redesigning to feature a new look with flush fitting headlights and newer wheel designs. The Chevette HS, the Chevette HSR and the Chevette L were some of the variants of the Vauxhall Chevette. The Chevette HS was a special Chevette model specifically designed as a rallying car. It featured a powerful 2.3 L “Slant Four” engine with a twin camshaft 16 valve cylinder head that made it a very fast car. |
