Diesel CarsA diesel cars usually employ an engine which is powered by diesel fuel. This fuel is a fractional distillation of the fuel oils like petroleum. Nowadays, alternative fuel like bio diesel which is derived form biological sources like vegetable oils are also used. A diesel engine is different from the petrol engines which are also used in vehicles. Diesel engine derives its name from Rudolph Diesel who invented this engine in 1892. These engines are generally available as two-stroke and four-stroke engines. Four-stroke engines are usually used in cars due to their power output. It was a general perception earlier that diesel powered vehicles were not as fast as petrol powered cars. However, this perception was changed with the introduction of turbo diesel engine cars that performed better than the naturally aspirated petrol powered cars. Diesel engines are fuel efficient engines as they generate same power with less fuel consumption than a gasoline (petrol) engine. An efficient turbo diesel car can cover more distance per gallon of fuel than petrol powered car. Most of the car manufacturers are now producing diesel variants of their models due to the rising popularity of diesel cars. The Ford diesel car Mondeo saloon and the Fiat Ducato are some examples of diesel powered, high performance cars. |
