Escort GTiThe Ford Escort GTi was launched in 1997, and was the last “standard” model in the three decade long history of the Ford Escort in Europe. The Escort GTi came with a body kit from the RS2000 model, which was phased out in June 1996. Till date, it remains the only GTi badge vehicle to be sold by Ford in Europe. The Ford Escort GTi was equipped with a 1.8 L (1800 cc) Zetec-e engine that could be easily tuned and modified. This 1.8 L engine developed 115ps (85 kW), but could be easily up graded to produce at least 130 BHP. The 8 valve 1.8 L Zetec-e engine had a maximum revolution limit just below 6000 RPM. The GTi also featured a rear spoiler, and half leather seats. It came standard with air conditioner and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System). The Escort GTi had white dials and also boasted an electronic driver’s seat. The GTi was relatively heavier, and weighed more than 1100 kg. In spite of that it could go from 0 to 60 MPH in 7.8 seconds and had a top speed of 140 mph. The 1800 cc Ford Escort GTi can be easily modified using parts from other Ford vehicles. Mechanical and electrical spare parts for the Escort GTi are available on many online sites across the internet. |
