Escort RS TurboThe Ford Escort RS Turbo is a performance variant of Ford’s small family car, the Escort. The first series Ford Escort RS Turbo (S1) was launched in 1984, and was based on the third generation Ford Escort. It was available in only one colour scheme, diamond white, and had a distinctive sporty appearance. It featured a body coloured front grille and a body coloured XR3i spoiler on the tailgate. Additionally, the tailgate had an “RS Turbo” decal. The S1 RS Turbo was equipped with standard XR3i type "Recaro" LS bucket seats. It used a turbocharged inter-cooled CVH 1600 engine which was capable of developing 132 BHP. The fourth generation Ford Escort Mk 4 was launched in 1986. Additionally, a revised RS Turbo variant, known as the Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 was also launched. The 1600 engine underwent many modifications, and featured the Garret T3 water cooled turbocharger. It also received revised engine management settings and lower overall gearing. The RS Turbo S2 featured an improved gearbox and a better performing Limited Slip Differential. The S2 RS Turbo produced 132 bhp @ 5750 RPM, and a maximum torque of 133 lb-ft @ 2750 RPM. It was equipped with stiffer front and rear springs as standard and upgraded anti-roll bars, and came with ABS as standard.
