FodenFoden Trucks was a company that manufactured British buses and trucks. The company was founded in 1856, in Sandbach, Cheshire. In 1980, the company was acquired by PACCAR, Inc. and went on to become a division of the company. The name Foden first appeared in 1887 when ‘Plant & Hancock’ was renamed as ‘Edwin Foden Sons & Co. Ltd’. Foden was into manufacturing of large industrial engines, agricultural traction engines and small stationary steam engines. He invented a practical and extremely efficient compound steam unit. This innovation was a great boon for the other steam power units produced by the firm. Soon after, the company manufactured their first experimental steam Lorries. The vehicle that was manufactured by Foden, entered the 1901 War Office trials. Edwin Foden’s sons E.R. Foden, Dennis, Ernest Sherratt and George Faulkener (all Foden employees) started a new company that was known as ERF. A network of Foden Parts and Service Dealers throughout the UK provide aftermarket support to Foden vehicles. The production of Foden Trucks stopped in 2006 with the last Foden being produced in July 2006. Some of the popular Foden trucks include the Military Foden and Classic Foden, among others. Spare parts and accessories of Foden Trucks are widely available online. |
