Ford Escort MK 1 was the first Escort model to be launched and it was equipped with a petrol engine. This model was followed by the Ford Escort MK 2 which became very popular as a rallying car. A 1.6L diesel engine was introduced in the third generation Escort model, the Ford Escort MK 3, making it a very economical car. Diesel variants of the Escort models acquired good reputation with the diesel Ford Escort van gaining huge popularity in the United Kingdom. The latest in the Escort series, the Fort Escort MK6 which was launched with revised interiors and improved suspension set up from the previous MK5/MK5b models.
