FTO

The world-famous Mitsubishi brand name is shared by the Mitsubishi Group of Companies, which include Mitsubishi Chemical, Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Atomic Industry. Established in 1970, Mitsubishi Motors is a reputed Japanese automobile manufacturing company which mostly manufactures light trucks and cars for the global market. This company manufactured the Mitsubishi FTO sports car for the period from 1994 up to 2000.

Designed as a front-engine, front wheel drive automobile, the Mitsubishi FTO received the ‘Car of the Year Japan’ award at the end of 1994. The FTO was available as a two-door coupe, which was powered by either a transversely mounted V6 engine or a straight-4 engine. This vehicle was introduced as a 4-speed and 5-speed semi-automatic, or the 5-speed manual transmission vehicle. The FTO in the name refers to ‘Fresh Touring Origination,’ as the manufacturer designed this compact vehicle to be a unique car. This car is known for its elegant designs and superb performance. Some of the major trim levels offered for this car are the GS, GR, and GPX.

In 1998, Mitsubishi Motors made an experimental electric model known as the FTO-EV that ran on lithium ion battery. There are several FTO owners club all over the United Kingdom. Several dealers offer the Mitsubishi FTO for sale in the European market.
