Golf Mk3The Volkswagen (VW) Golf is a small family car that was first launched in 1974. The VW Golf was one of the first widely successful front-wheel drive hatchbacks. The first Golf was the Mark 1, which was marketed as the Volkswagen Rabbit in America from 1975 to 1984. The third-generation Golf car, the Mark 3 or mk 3, was launched in 1991; production of this car was stopped in 1999. The three-door VW Golf mk3 was primarily available in GTI forms. The VR6 variant is considered the best of the lot and features a 2.8 L VR6 engine that considerably enhanced its power to 174 PS (128 kW/172 hp). In 1993, the 16-valve version of the third-generation mk3 Golf GTI was introduced. The enlarged engine (2.0 L) had enough power to reach 150 PS (110 kW/148 hp). The VW Golf Mark 4 was launched in 1999. The engine variants available for the Mark 4 included the 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.3, 2.8 and 3.2 litre petrol engines, in addition to a 1.9 litre turbodiesel. Performance models include the Mark V GTI, the Mark V R32 and the GTI Edition 30. The Mark V GTI features a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine with FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection) direct-injection technology that produces 200 bhp. The Mk5 R32 offered a maximum power of 247bhp at 6,300rpm. The GTI Edition 30 was launched as commemorate GTI's 30th anniversary. |
