Lancia DeltaThe Lancia Delta was a small family car that was manufactured by Lancia, an Italian automobile company that is a part of the Fiat Group. The Lancia Delta was first displayed in 1979 in the Frankfurt Motor Show. The initial Delta cars were five-door hatchbacks, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. These cars were known for their contemporary styling. The Delta HF Integrale was the most popular of the lot. This four-wheel drive hot hatch was powered by a turbocharged petrol engine. Designed for rallying, the Lancia Delta S4 was designed to perform differently than the commercial Delta. The Lancia Delta 8v featured stylish looks, luxurious interiors and advanced technical features of a rally car. The car was powered by a 2-litre 4 cylinder fuel injected single cam engine that featured integrated contra-rotating balancing shafts and was capable of providing a maximum speed of 133 mph and could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.6 seconds. These cars sported the most advanced transmission systems of the world. It featured permanent 4-wheel drive, an engine that’s mounted transversely in front and a five-speed gearbox. The Integrale 16v could achieve maximum speed of 137 mph (220 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.7 seconds. The production of the first generation of Delta cars ceased in 1994, which was followed by pulling off the second generation series from the market. Lancia Delta cars went completely out of production in 1999. The third generation is slated to release in 2008. |
