Metro TurboThe Austin Metro was a supermini manufactured by the Austin Rover Group between 1980 and 1989. The Austin Metro was launched in 1980, as a successor to the Mini. It featured a clever interior design and was very popular amongst buyers. In 1982, an MG Metro variant was introduced which utilised a modified 1.3 L A-Series Straight-4 engine. The MG Metro could accelerate from 0 to 60 in 10.9 seconds and had a top speed of 103 mph. After a period of time, a turbocharged variant, the MG Metro Turbo was unveiled. It was equipped with a turbocharged 1.3 L A-Series Straight-4 engine which was capable of developing 93 BHP @ 6130 RPM. Maximum torque stood at 85 lb-ft @ 2650 RPM. It also featured a relatively sophisticated boost delivery and control system, stiffer suspension, rear anti-roll bar and an uprated gearbox. The MG Metro Turbo was distinguishable from its non-turbo siblings by its deeper front air dam, plastic wheel arches and larger diameter alloy wheels. The MG Metro Turbo could accelerate from 0 to 60 in 9.9 seconds, and had a top speed of 112 mph. The Austin Metro was sold as Rover Metro between 1989 and 1994. The line-up was revised and two performance variants, the GTi and the GTa, were launched. The early GTi variants used a 95 bhp Spi engine, which was later replaced by the 103 bhp Mpi version. One can find many MG Metro Turbo and Metro GTi parts on sale on many online shopping portals. |
