Mini Engine

Mini is one of the most popular cars manufactured by British Motor Corporation, and its successors from 1959 to 2000. Predecessor to the new MINI that was launched in 2001, the original Mini featured a space-saving front-wheel-drive layout. Considered an icon of the 1960s, the Mini went on to become one of the most influential car of the twentieth century, which influenced a generation of car manufactures.

Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis for BMC, this revolutionary two-door car was produced at the Longbridge and Cowley plants, in the United Kingdom, and subsequently to other parts of the world including Australia, Belgium, Chile, Italy, Portugal and South Africa. The first version in the Mini series was the Mini Mk I, which was later followed by the Mk II, the Clubman and the Mk III. The other versions of this model also include the popular Mini Cooper, a sportier version that became successful as a rally car.

The Mini A-series was available with a variety of engine options and engine capacities ranging between 850 cc to 1275 cc with either a 4-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission assembly. Till date, around 64,000 Mk I Coopers with 997 or 998 cc engines, 19,000 Mk I Cooper S with 970, 1071 or 1275 cc engines, 16,000 Mk II Coopers with 998 cc engines and 6,300 Mk II Cooper S with 1275 cc engines have been produced.

The new Mini Cooper incorporates an engine produced with resources used from German-based BMW and French-based Peugeot. It incorporates a four-cylinder 1.6-litre capacity with a higher-tech aluminium block and is light in weight.
