Modified Clio

French automobile manufacturing company, Renault, introduced the Renault Clio in the year 1990. The Renault Clio is designed as a subcompact/supermini car. The high performance car, though small in size, has witnessed substantial commercial success and fan following in Europe and risen to being one of the top-selling automobile. Currently in its third generation, the Renault Clio is also sold as the Renault Lutecia in Japan. A distinct four door sedan was launched for specific markets and sold under the brand name of Renault Clio Symbol, Renault Clio Sedan and Renault Thalia. The same models are also sold under the Nissan brand tag in selective Latin American markets.

Renault introduced the Clio in European markets in March 1991 after launching the car in the Paris Motor Show in the autumn of 1990. Built with the intention of replacing the Renault 5, which was available only till 1996, the Renault Clio derived its power from either of 1.2 Litre or 1.4 Litre E-Type “Energy” petrol engines. The Inline 4-cylinder engines were first featured in the R19 series. The Clio received a performance upgrade when Renault introduced models sporting 1.7 Litre or the 1.9 Litre diesel engines sourced from the F-type units. Later performance enhancements included adding advanced fuel injection systems in place of the older carburettors in most petrol-driven models manufactured after 1992.

The Renault Clio was later modified by the company into a “warm-hatch” edition that bore many similarities with the Renault Clio RT. This version had a 110 hp 1.8 L 8-valve engine, side skirts and all wheels featuring disc brakes. A one of a kind limited run edition of the Clio was launched in 1993, called the Clio Williams. Only 400 units were ever produced with a right hand drive mode.
