Rolling ChassisIn automotive terms, the term rolling chassis refers to the frame along with the “running gear”. Running gear usually includes the transmission, engine, driveshaft, suspension and differential. However the term is very ambiguous, and as such does not necessarily mean that a “chassis” will contain all the above mentioned items. Some examples may only contain the frame, and not the running gear. A rolling chassis is the first item that most project car enthusiasts look for. An excellent condition rolling chassis complete with the transmission, engine, driveshaft, suspension and differential, commands an excellent price. Additionally, these can also be an excellent source of spare parts. Motorcycle rolling chassis are well sought after by project enthusiasts. These usually do not come with an engine, and are generally custom made. Rolling chassis for motor sport vehicles like go karts, drag bikes and 4 x 4 buggies have a sizeable market as these can be used to create race-ready custom vehicles for amateur racing events. Race vehicle related rolling chassis are not available with engines, and may or may not contain wheels. Harley Davidson motorcycle chassis tend to be in considerable demand, and are sought by project car enthusiasts who prefer choppers. Rolling chassis can be found in scrap yards. They can also be found on many online shopping portals. |
