Saxo VtrThe Saxo VTR was the sports variant of the supermini car model Saxo, produced by French car manufacturer Citroen (PSA). It shared similar looks and engine design as the Peugeot 106 model of Peugeot, which was Citroen’s sister company. It featured a 3/5 door hatchback body style. The Citroen Saxo was launched in 1996 to replace the Citroen AX model. Saxo First, Saxo Forte, Saxo Desire and Saxo Furio were some of earlier models of the Citroen Saxo. The petrol version of the Saxo models used either the 1.1L or the 1.4L engine whereas the diesel variants were equipped with the 1.5L (non turbo) diesel engine. Citroen came up with the new Saxo VTR model that was equipped with a 1.6L eight valve engine, which managed to produce 90 BHP. The later modified VTR model produced 98 BHP due to emission control changes. The VTR was equipped with alloy wheels, firmer suspension and sports seats. One could also install optional side airbags and ABS. The Citroen Saxo VTR featured a rear spoiler which was later moulded to fit the outside rear windscreen instead of the other boot shell. The Saxo VTR was followed by the120 BHP VTS model featuring a sixteen valve engine with a standard passenger air bag. The Citroen Saxo is no longer in production as its production was stopped in 2003. However, one can find a number of used Saxo VTR and modified Saxo VTR for sale online. |
