TVRTVR is one of the largest manufacturers of specialised sports cars. This company is based in Blackpool, Lancashire, England and is currently owned by a Russian businessman Nikolai Smolenski. TVR was formerly known as Trevcar Motors and was founded by Trevor Wilkinson. TVR cars have been extremely popular in the United Kingdom. The company is renowned for the production of extremely light racing cars and has always been known for its aggressive body design right from their first car, which was manufactured in 1949. Most of the TVR cars make use of straight 6-cylinder engine which have been designed in-house. TVR cars make use of a tubular steel body frame over which plastic bodywork is glass-reinforced. The earlier TVRs were powered by 4-cylinder engines of Ford, BMC or the Coventry Climax with the performance TVR models having Shorrock Superchargers. By the 1980s, TVR cars started using modified Rover V8 engines with increased capacity of up to 4.5 L. In the 1990s, TVR developed its own engine design known as the AJP8. It was a light weight alloy V8 engine and was employed for the first time in TVR Cerbera and TVR Tuscan models. The current engine design used in TVRs is the straight six cylinder derivative of the AJP8 and is also known as the “Speed 6”. The TVR Sagaris and the TVR Chimaera are some of the popular TVR models. Due to the huge fan following of the TVR cars, many websites offer TVR car insurance along with body kit and spare parts. |
